Oak Crest’s Adult
Day Care focuses on each participant’s
individual abilities and strengths while encouraging social activities
which stimulate meaningful memories and cultivate pleasure.
Adults
even if experiencing short and long term memory loss can enroll
in a daily program that is designed to offer support and
encouragement.
For caregivers our program provides the opportunity
to continue working, run errands, attend club meetings or simply
rest. Daily
programming is flexible and is available seven days a week
from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Fees are based on a sliding scale.
Transportation
can be scheduled as needed within a specified area.

Respite
Care
Oak Crest’s Respite Care program is available twenty-four
hours daily with no minimum length of stay and provides the
services and amenities all residential members enjoy – home-cooked
meals, snacks, individualized support service, and social
programs. Our guest bedrooms are furnished with the individual’s
comfort in mind. Fees are based on a sliding scale.

Q. What is
Oak Crest’s Adult Day Care program?
A. Oak Crest’s Adult Day Care program is a planned program
of activities designed to promote individual well-being through
social and cognitive stimulation. Your family member will have
the opportunity to talk to many people throughout their day;
program participants are involved in the same activities, meals
and social
programs as our residential members. Oak crest has provided Adult
Day Care for over 25 years and is licensed by the Illinois Department
of Public Health.
Q. What are the hours of operation, location
and cost?
A. Oak Crest’s Adult Day Care program is a flexible program
where no set days or times need to be prearranged but a simple
telephone call is appreciated. Your family member is welcome
seven days a week from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The Adult Day
Care program
is located at Oak Crest Residence, 204 S. State Street, Elgin.
Fees are based on a sliding scale. Transportation can be scheduled
within a specified area. Please call Marlene at 847-742-2255
to discuss program fees.
Q. What is my family member won’t
join in activities?
A. Some people are just not joiners and would rather
be observers. However, the staff at Oak Crest is trained to find
each individual’s
interests. We will develop a program that is unique to your family
member’s desires and interests.
A typical day could include:
- Board Games/Cards/Puzzles
- Cognitive Stimulation
- Creative Expression (Art, Music, Poetry)
- Exercise
- Intergenerational programs with local schools and clubs
- Men’s
Club
- Movies
- Outings: The Centre of Elgin, Hemmens Cultural Center,
Wal-Mart, Target, as well as various restaurants.
Most outings are included in the fee structure however occasionally an additional
fee may
appear on your bill for a meal at a
restaurant or a purchase at a retail store.

Q. Will you
accept my family member who is experiencing memory loss?
A. Adults experiencing short and long term memory
loss can participate in a daily program that
is designed to
offer support
and encouragement.
Our program is designed to focus on each person’s
abilities and strives to maintain each participant’s
independence. All staff is trained in the understanding
of dementia.
Q. What is included in the daily
fee?
A. The daily fee includes all home cooked
meals and snacks served while your family
member
is here. Oak Crest staff
will also supervise
prescribed medications, assist with bathroom
service, and provide any special dietary
modifications needed
while your family
member is here. Our Meditation Room and Library
are two peaceful areas
where you family member can rest if needed
while they are in our day program.

stay. Program participants are involved in the same activities,
meals and social programs as our residential members. Our program
is designed to focus on each person’s abilities
and strives to maintain each participant’s independence. The Respite
Care and Short Term Vacation Stay program is located at Oak crest Residence,

Q. What is included in the daily fee?
A. Oak Crest staff will supervise prescribed medications, assist
with walking, bathroom service, dressing, bathing, laundry
and provide any special dietary
modifications needed while your family member is here for their stay.
Q. What
support services are available strictly for caregivers?
A. A professionally led Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support
Group meets the third Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. at
Oak Crest Residence. This support group is affiliated with the
Alzheimer’s Association – Greater
Illinois Chapter. Guest speakers and free educational programs are scheduled
throughout
each month. Trained experts are available at all times to answer questions
or just listen.
