Founded
in 1904 by a group of people who came together for the purpose
of making a place for older adults to live in comfort and dignity,
Oak
Crest has met the needs of senior citizens for over a century.
We are unique in the senior service industry with no outside sponsor
or affiliations: Oak Crest operates as a not for profit 501c3
organization
without any outside funding. As such we rely on the fees paid by
our members to operate.
George P. Lord and his wife Mary Carpenter Lord began
Oak Crest’s
legacy by gaining support from other local philanthropists and providing
their own home site as the starting point for Oak Crest Residence.
The
Lords leveled their home at 204 S. State St. and construction began
on the
building that is now Oak Crest. In 2000 the Atrium
Apartments were added; in 2006 the Cellar Pub was added; and
in 2007 Hope Cottage
Memory Center was added. The philosophy of the organization has
been to remain current while not losing sight of the mission “ to
provide dignity and caring for older adults”. The adaptation
of the organization to remain current continues today as plans
to grow and meet future needs are considered.
